This is one of the best green bean recipes I have ever tasted. I cook for a homeless shelter once a month and I made these beans to go with their meal and everyone loved them. I also have made them for a church potluck and there wasn't a single bean left. The only thing I do differently with the recipe is that I completely cook the bacon ahead of time, crumble it and add it to the green beans before I pour the butter mixture over them. This recipe is definitely a keeper!
I agree with SWEETJAM who previously reviewed this recipe making 2 alterations. With the reduction in sugar (used 1/2 of what the recipe called for) and using 1 fresh minced clove of garlic, this was a HUGE hit at dinner last night. Way better than I expected.
Tried this recipe many times this summer, my family loves it.
This was awesome! I added fresh mushroom slices and next time I make it will garnish with toasted sesame seeds. I also think I will put the beans in a bowl and toss with the sauce to get more even coating. I just brushed the top of the bacon with a little sauce. My wife was eating these off the cookie sheet as quickly as they cooled. Delicious!
Not really sure how to rate this since I didn't actually try it myself. The only thing I did different to the recipe was to use 100oz. of green beans instead of 75oz. Took it to a church potluck. My mom said that there was too much green beans to get the full effect of the flavor. She also said it was too sweet. I will have to make it again soon using the right amount of green beans for just my family and see what they think of it. Next time I will probably cut up the bacon and mix it throughout instead of just laying it on top in whole slices, and lessen the brown sugar by a little bit. This was definitely very easy to make and I'm sure it will be a yummy dish once I use all the right proportions.
